🤗 Our dedicated teachers are back for more, diving even deeper into their craft in our Level 2 Silks Teacher Training!

These are the folks who as we like to say are the guardians of the industry. They are leveling up and caring for this ever changing and developing practice of aerial aerial arts.

🤸‍♂️ Loving the Elbow Hang! 😅 But let’s be honest, it can be a bit painful.

💪 So many options – single, double... What I find fascinating is how it connects to the Iron Cross in such an intriguing way. The Iron Cross can be a bit of a dead end move, not offering many transitions. It’s a “get in and get out” kind of thing.

🧩 One of my favorite challenges is using a dead-end skill as motivation to create new movement pathways. Can you start with something like the Iron Cross and turn it into an entry or exit for another move? You might have to tweak things a bit, like going from both arms wrapped to just one, as done here.

Adjust and customize it further to match your style and personality.

Are there any dead end skills you know of? Any that you just do usually do anything with?
Drop it here and it will be a bunch of new seeds for everyone to try and play with!

Aerial art can sometimes feel like a lonely art, just you and your apparatus.

But we absolutely adore the ensemble aspect, and we've got so many fun ways to explore it with our Vertical Theatre Method!

We always include an hour-long sample of it in our teacher trainings. 🎓

✨ In our Greece Retreats we always make sure to integrate it into our classes.

Our first-ever Greece Retreat focused a whole week on the Vertical Theatre Method and act development. We capped off the week with a full-length performance for the community. It was a wicked show! 🔥

📢You can get a taste of this incredible experience when you join us for our Greece Retreat! And guess what? Registration opens this Monday at 9am PST!

🌴 Retreat Details:
Week 1: May 12 – 19, 2024 – Silks & Lyra
Week 2: May 22 – 29, 2024 – Silks & Sling

🌪️ Working with spinning my shrimp on sling 🌪️ Working with spinning my shrimp on sling

🦐 This body position is commonly referred to as “shrimp” and is a variation of center spin, where you find center by creating an accordion type position by bending at the hips and knees (& sometimes shoulders, depending).

👣 We would also consider it a “foot isolation spin” because if you get your toes in the right spot, there’s a neat illusion that happens where your foot stays in a fixed point while your body spins around it.

We go over these positions (and more!) in the Spin Theory section of our Level 2 Teacher Training if you are in the Bar Apparatus track (Trapeze or Lyra).

We don’t currently have a Sling Teacher Training (it’s on our to do list, for offerings in the future) but we absolutly LOVE using sling as a tool for playing with spin.

It is easy to get thrown out of center, and takes a lot of practice and control. Have you tried this spin variation?

Paper Doll Militia has been working with Aerial Chains since 2008. We love how versatile it is, you can transform the rigging orientation in endless variations, by adjusting what chain link you clip into.

We’ve performed with a single chain strand (like a rope), double chain strands (like silks), a single strand hammock, double loops, and uneven double loops.

⛓️What’s your favorite chain orientation? (from an audience or aerialist perspective) #aerialchains #aerialchain
